Bride Story Featuring Sarah Roehl
A love story featuring OUR Brides in OUR Bridal Dresses
What’s better than finding the love of your life? It’s finding out that you both support the same sports team as well! Sarah and Derek’s story started in the Spring of 2011 at Western Michigan University and they quickly connected over their shared love for the BRONCOS. They both knew it was meant to be and Derek popped the all-important question in Venice on a gondola ride!
Their beautiful wedding was held on July 14 th , 2018 at Castle Farms, Charlevoix, MI.
Sarah describes the food, venue and ceremony in one word: PERFECT. She says that Castle Farms is absolutely magical. It’s so special because no one would ever expect to find a castle venue in Michigan, let alone the Northern part.
Sarah’s fascination with castles began when Derek and Sarah lived in England and Scotland for a few years as Derek pursued his professional Hockey career. That’s why it didn’t even take a second for them to choose Castle Farms as the venue for their big day. Sarah is from the West side of Michigan and Derek is from the East, so they had everyone come up North to witness the beauty of the place and the surroundings.
Along with the venue, everyone loved the food that was catered by Wine Guys from Petoskey Michigan and Sarah says they did a phenomenal job. Their service was friendly, fast, and the food was lip- smacking. They went with a Caesar salad to start, duet style plate of garlic crusted beef tenderloin, basil pesto white wine roasted chicken, white truffle mashed potatoe s& a summer vegetable medley.
The ceremony held a special place in both their hearts because they tailored it to be EXACTLY like they wanted. It was in the breathtaking Queens Courtyard at Castle Farms. They had their dear friend Danielle Strace officiate the proceedings. Sarah tears up as she remembers the wonderful job that Danielle did and is grateful to her for making it so touching. She says that Danielle mixed both love and sense of humor and it was the best ceremony she ever attended (she admits that she might be a little biased.) Every time Sarah looked out at their wedding guests, she either saw laughter or tears of joy which you can’t really beat for a wedding ceremony.
They also did a rose ceremony for their mothers who have been their rocks throughout the years. Sarah also had both her father and her stepfather walk her down the aisle. Gianna, their niece was the pretty flower girl and they had Sadie, their Shitzu-Poodle, act as the Ring Bearer. Their dear friends Chelsea Slater and Joseph Tringale did the readings and Sarah is grateful that all her loved ones got together and made the day EXTRA special.
Sarah finds it difficult to pick a single moment that was her favourite from the ceremony because she just loved each and every single minute and wanted time to stand still. Derek and Sarah did the first look to start. Sarah really wanted to do it because she says that it’s truly the ONLY time on your entire wedding day when you just have a solitary moment with each other and it is unlike any other moment. She says that she enjoyed the first look moment so much that even saying, ‘I do’ and exchanging rings doesn’t top it.
Their bridal party also meant a lot to them They have built special relationships over the past years with all of them and their assistance, support and personalities were great to have on the big day. Sarah also says that their DJ was on point the entire night and did not miss a single beat. He had the dance floor rocking all night!
Sarah bought her gorgeous Calla Blanche dress (Bella style #16241) from Piera’s Bridal Couture. She says that her best friend spotted it when they went looking for dresses. When Sarah saw it on the hanger, she didn’t really like it. But she admits that she was so wrong. The moment she put on the Calla Blanche, she INSTANTLY fell in love. She says that she is quite the sporty, tomboy sort but she wanted to feel like an absolute queen on her wedding day and with the Calla Blanche, she did. She also commends Piera’s Bridal as they did an amazing job altering the dress and fitting it perfectly for her!
She says that all their vendors were amazing to work with. The details that she went over with everyone were executed perfectly. She thanks the photographer (Neringa Ridges), venue coordinator (Autumn Tall), videographer ( Mitch Pater), dessert caterer ( Simply Sweet by Jessica), Florist ( A Touch of Spring & Other Things- Judy) , DJ ( Rusch Entertainment – Casey)
In closing, Sarah offers some advice for future brides. She says that it is important that brides’ interview and find people they vibe with. She says that it is EVERYTHING to be comfortable and confident in who you choose to run your wedding day. She says that because the people she picked out were so good, she didn’t have to stress at all. She KNEW everything was in good hands and she also KNEW that she was going to spend the rest of her life with the love of her life, Derek.
