How To Handle Pre-wedding Stress

Planning the wedding of your dreams is anything but a walk in the park. Emotions are running high, there are certain things that will go your way, and others that won’t. You probably have some impressive expectations, since this is the one event you have been dreaming of your whole life. Between those and the new ideas you’ve been getting from magazines, Pinterest, Instagram, your friends’ weddings, your mom’s suggestions, and your partner’s input, getting stressed out is inevitable. Now take a deep breath and take a look at the following tips on how to ease your mind before your big day.

Set limits

You can’t do two things at once. Contrary to popular belief, numerous studies have confirmed that multitasking is a lie. The human brain can only focus on one task at a time. Now if you choose to dedicate your time at work to planning your wedding, chances are you will get fired. Just kidding! You might get in trouble though. Allocate a certain amount of time during your lunch break to do wedding stuff. Or better yet, give work your full attention and then dedicate an hour or two to your bridal duties when you get home. Planning within a specific time frame will ensure you get through your checklist in a more efficient way.

Take time off

Whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed from selecting the menu, finding your dream lace wedding dress, the décor, listening to your bridesmaids complain about the color of their dresses, how differently your mom would’ve done things… just put your phone down and step away. Give yourself a break! Go for a walk with your partner, spend a weekend away. Anything to help clear your mind from all things wedding. Remember you’re planning the happiest day of your life. It doesn’t have to feel like a job.

Unplug

You find yourself constantly looking up articles on what to do and what not to do, how to plan the perfect wedding, finding your dress. And it’s not just on your laptop. Do yourself, and your relationship, a favor, and put your phone down. Turn off all electronics for just an hour. Enjoy a nice dinner, a bubble bath, take a spa day. Focus on yourself for a little bit. Your body and mind will appreciate it.

Be realistic

There’s a difference between how you picture your wedding day in your mind and the options that are available to you. You might not be able to afford those crystal centerpieces you’ve always wanted, but there might other ways to add that glamorous touch to the décor. Perhaps the wedding band you wanted to hire was already booked for that weekend. Try to be open to possibilities. There are some aspects of the wedding planning that you’ll be able to control, and some that you won’t, but keeping your expectations grounded will make the journey a lot more delightful.

Share your feelings

One thing you must remember, you are not alone in this. It takes two to plan a wedding. What better time than know to lean on your significant other? You shouldn’t have to deal with all the anxiety on your own. Make sure you communicate with your partner and share your concerns. There’s no better stress relief than a wholehearted conversation. After all, you are planning to spend the rest of your lives together.
