Our Biggest Takeaways from Celebrity Small Weddings
Let’s be honest, ladies, who here hasn’t taken a stroll down the celebrity-wedding lane? We’ve definitely done our fair share! It’s hard not to get lost in admiring their wedding dress styles, aesthetics, and venue choices, so we don’t blame you. With many couples – celebrities included – taking the more intimate route, we thought we’d collect a few of our favorites and share what we’ve learned.
Ariana Grande & Dalton Gomez
Ariana looked incredibly stunning as she wore a custom-made strapless gown from Vera Wang. According to Vogue, the iconic designer promised to create her wedding day look when the day would come, and that she did (without disappointment).
Ariana’s gown was lily-white and made from a silk charmeuse fabric, with a sculpted neckline and empire waistline silhouette, plus a daring plunging back (which we are obsessed with). She paired this look with a hand-pleated veil and, classically Ariana, a pair of platform heels. The ceremony was beautifully intimate, with less than 20 close friends and family members present to help witness the union of these two young lovers.
Looking for some inspiration? Our key takeaways were the couple’s basic yet elaborate décor, as they had their ceremony glowing from all around with candlelight and flowers suspending from the ceiling for a dreamy view! Ariana also wore earrings to match her engagement ring. Her pearl and diamond earrings held significance to Ariana. She wore one upside down and the other, right side up, to signify appreciating the “upside-down” moments in her life that truly helped shape who and where she is today.
Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn
On a cold winter night, Ed Sheeran Cherry Seaborn tied the knot in secret. While it may not have been entirely secret – the couple had 40 guests in attendance – it indeed was kept hush from the public. The wedding was meant to be a “no fuss” kind of event, where it was solely Ed’s oldest friends from school, a minimal number of family members from both sides, and their priest!
Our key takeaway from Ed and Cherry’s wedding is that they wanted it to be “something entirely for them”. This was their why for having a small wedding, no fans, no media, and they were able to have a beautiful winter wedding that was truly special to the two of them.
Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber
After intimately (and secretly) getting married at a courthouse in New York City – not listening to friends and family – the couple got married for a second time, this time including their loved ones.
For their courthouse ceremony, it is rumored that she still wore a white dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves and paired it with sneakers. However, when it came to their larger wedding one year later, the again bride, Hailey, opted for not one, not two, but three wedding day looks. The three looks were designed by Virgil Abloh, who designed her ceremony gown; Ralph and Russo, who created her reception gown; and Vera Wang for the after-party to finish off the night.
The inspo to take away from this wedding? Well, we have two for you! First, do not be afraid to opt for a smaller intimate ceremony, following it up down the road with a more significant bash. You can get the best of both worlds; private and less expensive, and then pricy and a big party.
Secondly, if Hailey taught us anything, it’s to not be afraid to switch up the looks on your big day! Her dress by Abloh and the Off-White team was nothing less than glamorous: off the shoulder, long sleeves, lace, and pearl embroidery, all paired with a dramatic veil that had lace trim and “till death do us part” stitched in at the very end”. An intriguing choice, especially since this was Abloh’s very first piece of bridal wear. Hailey’s reception outfit was a silk gown, fitted with a halter neckline and a sexy high slit paired with strappy Jimmy Choo heels. Lastly, her after-party look was simpler but still ravishing. Haley wore a slip dress with an asymmetrical neckline and an off-the-shoulder sleeve, all pulled together with a pair of white sneakers – perfect for dancing the night away.
Celebrities know how to do weddings big, we’ve always known that they’re capable of all the glitz and glamour, but when we see them opt for more small and intimate events, we can’t help but pull out our notebooks and start taking notes. Other celebs with more intimate ceremonies included Dennis Quaid and Laura Savoie, Niecey Nash and Jessica Betts, Matt Damon and Luciana Bozán Barroso!
