The Bride’s Survival Guide: Things To Avoid When Dealing With A Wedding Planner

What makes your wedding exciting? Apart from your wedding dress, it is the people you will invite to share this once in a lifetime event with you and of course, the person who will wait for you on the other end of the aisle. The wedding itself can be fun and exciting but the planning part can be stressful. Sure, on your wedding day, you want to look good and fresh, but if the wedding preparation is dragging and tiring, you may have no time to make yourself look pretty on your wedding day.

What is the solution? Hire a wedding coordinator. These people are known to make your wedding extraordinarily perfect and nice. But of course, there are some things you have to consider when dealing with them.

Things You Must Avoid When Dealing With A Wedding Coordinator

Here are some of the things you have to consider when dealing with a wedding coordinator.

  • Do not be too complacent

Yes, they are good with what they do but being complacent is not something you have to do. Being too complacent is not the right way to do business with them. Sure, they can take a lot off your back, but you still have to make sure they are doing it right. Although, you do not have to be very strict or be close to micromanaging what they are doing, you just have to stay on top of everything. It is your wedding, hence there is no one else who can decide on it better than you.

  • Do not be too demanding

You do not have to be too demanding. Surely, you can give the instructions and things they need to do but it is still important that you give your wedding coordinators some respect. There is a thin line between asking them to do what is necessary to be too demanding, make sure that you do not cross on it.

  • Do not let them decide on their own

They have bright ideas to share, they can make your wedding perfect but never let them decide all by themselves. Make sure that you still give your opinions and it is you who will make the final decision on which vendor to hire, what wedding theme and color to consider, and how many visitors would you want at your wedding.

Some because of the wedding coordinator’s experience and expertise, will let them decide everything about their wedding. Remember, this event may only happen once in your lifetime so it is only right that you make it your dream wedding and not theirs.

  • Do not bargain too much

Yes, they want to help you make your wedding dreams come true, but that does not mean they will give it away for free or cheap. Remember, you will get what you have paid for at a low bargain.

There are also wedding organizers who offer too low fees, doing a background checking may be necessary as too good to be true offers may not be true at all.

  • Do not always try to look for mistakes

When you find something wrong, more often than not, you can find one. Do not focus too much on the mistakes, of course, you can correct them especially that you want your wedding to be flawless and perfect but you also have to give credit to the good things they have accomplished.

You can guard them but you have to sometimes distance yourself and let them do what they do best. Anyway, they are held responsible if something wrong came upon your wedding, so for sure, they will do everything necessary to make it right all throughout.

  • Do not waste their time

Do not show up late on meetings and appointments and do not be too fickle-minded. Do not let them close a deal with a vendor and end up changing your mind about it or do not let them plan a theme and change your mind in the middle of the wedding preparation.

You have to make sure that before you give instruction or before you let them do any job, you are sure about it.

  • Do not ask too personal questions

Sure, you have to be close to your wedding coordinator, but that does not mean you can go too personal. Asking them about their pay, their family, relationships, and anything personal may not be okay to everyone. Some may see it as okay while others see it as offensive and below the belt.

Invading their privacy is not part of the service they offer, so you have to make sure you are not going beyond that. You can open small talks but it should be limited to general information. Let them start up with conversations that are too personal.

  • Do not hire their service until you perform some background checking

They are one of the vendors you have to hire first, but that does not equate to hiring in a rush. You have to make sure that you do your homework first. Know the company’s background, the number of weddings they serve, their ratings online, etc. If you have time and if it is okay with them, you can ask for references too.

When calling one of their references, make sure that you immediately introduce yourself and go straight to the questions you want to ask. Do not waste much of their time, do not invade their privacy, and make sure they know that you are not a burglar or a telemarketer.

There are a lot of wedding coordinators to hire, if you hire the best one, expect a wedding so perfect and memorable. But again, there are things you have to avoid to ensure that your relationship and the result of your wedding will turn out perfect too.
